Rain!
I don't think I mentioned that we finally got rain here on Monday night. Upwards of two inches, too, in the span of about an hour and a half. Needless to say, most of it ran out under my garden gate, but I'm crossing my fingers that this will be the first rain that brings the rest - because if you don't have sufficient moisture to make clouds, you don't get rain, and before this storm we hadn't had rain since the beginning of the month.
Summertime drought is nothing unusual here; we'll have rain in the spring, and then around the end of May or beginning of June, it disappears. We get sporadic thunderstorms in the summer as fronts go through, but rarely any real rain. And then, in late August, it finally breaks.
This year, the break will be helped along by the remnants of Tropical Storm Ernesto, which are supposed to cross through Virginia later this week. ::waves to friends and family in Florida and the Carolinas:: Florida's had it worse, this year, drought-wise than we have, so I'm sure they're happy for the moisture.
::does a rain dance::
