I didn’t stop – the logistics of stopping for any reason on the side of the interstate are discouraging, for good reason – but I was really tempted. Driving eastward, up the nearly deserted road, I was treated to the most gorgeous rippled bank of clouds tinted copper and orange and pink. Bare tree branches rose like paper silhouettes against that brilliance.

This was the second morning in a row that my commute was suffused in this sort of joyful awareness of beauty and peace and life. I do so love mornings. And, this time of year of all times, I can really use the serenity.

Packages and cards have all been handed off to the post office! I’m amazed. The final days before the holidays are always so rushed, not just at home but at work, too. I am not surprised that people find this time of year the most difficult – so much stress, so many obligatory things to do and say and think. Joy shouldn’t come at such cost.

It’s lovely, today, to have all of that over and let myself relax into the enjoyment of others’ receipt of cards and goodies. In the next week, I’ll get to play with the dog – Kay does so love a long ramble around the new property, and is learning her boundaries very well. We’ll bask in the heat of our beautiful new woodstove (happy anniversary to us!) and gather twigs and small deadfall branches to feed it. Snow is expected, so we’ll get to watch it fall and listen to the hush of the winter landscape. The sleep pheromones will catch us all, I suspect, without warning.

Best wishes for a quiet, fulfilling holiday season, folks.

No card had arrived on Tuesday. Oh dear! I think the mail forward from New York ended a while ago.

I need to remember to hop over to the pack list more often. *sighs*
