Bookkeeping: Lynch
Jun. 26th, 2012 03:46 pmWell, I'm not quite derailed, but I am delayed while I work a bit more on my POV characters' motivation. I've been putting words on paper, patching holes, so my word count's up a little. Nowhere near as much as I'd have liked.
New words: n/a
Total words: 6798
Mean things: Guilt. Lots of it.
Research: "definition" of magical realism--no one has the same definition, go figure! I'm hoping somewhere in the overlapping Venn diagram of definitions I'll find enlightenment. And here's a revelation that annoyed me: the setting seems to affect the degree to which the concept of magical realism works. In a more modern, technological setting, it's proving hard as hell to get the right balance of commonplace things being extraordinary and extraordinary things being accepted. It all feels like fantasy when the setting's a city...which leads me to speculate if magical realism isn't a label for fantastic elements in an otherwise "literary" novel.
And, now that my displacement activity has been completed, I guess I'd better get back to trying to capture those elusive words. >:-)
