I hate it when I can't find the word to go with a concept I need to have on paper. Anyone got an idea what the missing word is there in the brackets?

He chuckled over my reluctant [savior-hood].

I'm actually fine with it being more than a single word, but I can't work through my mental symbol-set to find the term or phrase I need and both Bartleby and Panlexicon have proven unhelpful.

He chuckled over my new role[status] as [of] reluctant paladin.

[redeemer]
[defender]
[saviour] noting wrong with saviour
[elevation to hero]
[elevation to saviour-knight]

Best I could do in a couple of minutes.

Is saviourhood not a word? It ought to be.

What with all the wonderful salvific (and yes, that is a real word) and soteriological terminology I've been exposed to in recent years, this is something I ought to know.

Are we talking messianic saviour-ness or your average everyday saving-from-harm?

I'd go with Jaime's construction, to be honest with you. 'Saviourhood' (should you use that word) seems to imply something intrinsic to the person, you know what I mean?

I get you.

(And, btw, I am going to read your novel. Really. Just not this weekend. :))
