We appear to have bought a farm. >:-)
::cue squeals of delight::
A co-worker of mine and her partner owned this 43+ acre farm in the rural farm country west of the city. It’s about 40 minutes further west than I currently live. They have some small livestock and an old farmhouse, ca. 1899 and added onto in the 1930s. There are two year-round creeks and a big pond (lake? what is it if it’s 10 acres?) and fallow fields and a 20-acre woodlot. And they wanted to move into the city, because they’re getting older.
The stars aligned just right, I guess, because they knew we were looking for land and what our priorities are regarding the preservation of farmland, and on Sunday we came to terms as to price. We move in early April.
And on this farm we have 14 chickens, two peacocks, a goose, two barn cats, and a dog who would not adapt well to city life. Plus our three dogs.
It’s not quite Green Acres. *g* But it’s close.
