As scientific articles go, it’s really very readable, so don’t let the webpage scare you off. Read it to the end, and then take your kids and go out and play in the dirt. It’s good for you.

I just now got around to finishing this article. It was fascinating. J and I marveled at S's repeated consumption of sand when we lived in Le Teich, and naturally we tried to stop her from putting it in her mouth. Now it seems that she was right to do so. :P
