Although I am signing up for an InsaneJournal account, just to have the option of moving somewhere else. And if ads start turning up on my lj here, or they introduce more shit like that Adult Content thing, I'll move.
If the only visible change will be an increase in ad traffic, I probably won't move...unless all of my writer buddies are moving, in which case I probably will, since they (you!) are the reason I'm here at all.
Yeah, I won't move for good unless there's visible exodus. But I suppose you read pecunium's post, and followed the link to the interview with The Management?
I do not like that attitude. That's all I'm saying, without going into immoderate detail.
I followed a link on Stephanie Leary's blog to a translation of the comments of one of the new owners (http://darkrosetiger.livejournal.com/373663.html). pecunium usually has good sources, though, and is well-spoken, so maybe I'll go see what he says on the subject, too.
Yeah, that's the one I read. It made me very tempted to move entirely, for I do not like the impression which I received from that interview, which is The Management only cares about their needs and their advertisers' needs, rather than the needs of their content providers and customer base.
I mean, I like having a basic account - I hate ads - and being able to be part of a community here. (It's not like I've many ties to any sort of RL community with similar writing and SFF interests.) But.
Ah, but what he said is nothing more than any candid large businessman will say. It really is just business. Callous, sure, but unless people vote with their feet--or their wallets--there's no reason for him or the rest of the owners to give a damn. We consumers forget both those lessons--that we are merely a commodity, and that even commodities have power--at our cost.
